• This striking Thistle table lamp from Waterford has all the polish of a royal sitting room while echoing the organic silhouette of the plant it is named for. These lamps are amazing! I ordered two for a hutch in a dark corner. The first one arrived with a 100-watt soft white bulb left in the socket. It hung under the lamp rim and looked awful. Wrong! Buy clear 40-watt appliance bulbs, and this lamp will throw amazing patterns of llght around the room. The crystal has a wonderful clarity and brilliance. As I was researching this lamp online, I found this bit of background on its creation. Odd that the designer is never mentioned by name, but interesting nonetheless: "Sometime around 1905, one of America's premier Prairie style architects was trying to resolve a commission given him by the son of a great railroad baron. The young man wanted a floor lamp that would easily fit into his new Carolina Blue Mountains hunting lodge, but not be 'too rustic.' The architect's creative genius was temporarily blocked, so he decided to take a walk in the high Carolina forests surrounding the acreage the lodge was being built on. As so often happens, inspiration was found and the architect sketched the simple design of light amber art glass decorated only with a blossoming tree bough. The timeless, understated design became known as Grove Park as has been reproduced countless times over the last 100 years. Quoizel's new reproduction features 240 pieces of high quality hand rolled art glass, both copper-foiled and hand-leaded. Keeping with the 'tree' theme, they placed oak wood both at the top and bottom portions of the fortress style four-square base. The wood is finished in a Medium Oak and the base metalwork finished in a slightly gold-toned bronze." Having previously purchased the Quoizel Pomez Agate Stone Tiffany 3-Light Floor Lamp, I was pleased with the quality of the company's lamps and their adherence to Arts & Crafts design principles. The thing my wife and I liked most about the Grove Park was the way it bridges the masculine and the feminine. The solid geometric base blends with the subtle flowering branch motif of the shade to create an attractive whole that I think would appeal to a broad range of tastes. It certainly complements any Mission, Arts & Crafts, Prairie, or nature-inspired interior. We placed it in a corner of our bedroom next to an armchair to create a reading nook. The art glass shade is slightly iridescent, beautifully constructed, and does a good job of suggesting nature without beating you over the head with it. When illuminated, it casts a warm yellow-green light, but it looks great even when turned off. The lamp uses two bulbs (each on a separate pull), up to 100-watts each. After trying several bulb options, we actually settled on two 60-watt (equivalent) compact fluorescents. I try to use CF bulbs where I can, but in all honesty, they just cast a nasty light sometimes. Yet for some reason, we actually liked them better than incandescent bulbs in this lamp. Go figure. Another thing I like about this lamp is the design of the shade holder. Four metal arms branch out to support it from beneath, while a combination of nuts and washers hold it on at center. This, in combination with the stout base, makes the lamp very stable and keeps the shade from wobbling. Overall, you'd be hard pressed to find a more attractive or better designed Arts & Crafts style lamp at this price point. I have several other reproduction Tiffany lamps. I always wanted a Nautilus shell lamp but couldn't find one that I liked and could afford. Most I've seen have been made of green glass. This one appeared more masculine and had great detail on the base. The original lamps had metal bases but this reproduction has a resin base. It's really a good copy. It's size is impressive also. After months of looking at various floor lamps to place in my bedroom -- this was the one I settled on. It was to be my reward upon finishing my bedroom extensive deep clean. Then I learned that the model was discontinued -- and I immediately ordered it -- and for a slightly higher price at Amazon than elsewhere because indeed their customer service is outstanding -- and with an item this expensive -- it was worth the extra $25 for that security. It arrived but would not put together properly. I could tell I received an item that had been returned. It took about an hour and some dismantling of the lamp but I figured out the problem -- a screw deep inside the housing had not been properly screwed in all the way -- causing a chain reaction of things no fitting. Once I found it -- everything lined up perfectly and it is beautiful. This is my second Quoizel Tiffany lamp, the first i have had for 15 years -- a ceiling chandelier. In the more recent search, I found several manufacturers -- some make reproduction of actual tiffany designs and other design their own along the same lines. Quoizel is one of the top two -- better quality and more striking designs than its competitors including the namesake manufactures. I prefer Quoizel to the other top quality manufacturer -- but that is just a taste issue not at all a comment on on the other manufacturer (who also is not a namesake.) I happen to like Quoizel designs better. So get yours before they are gone -- the craftsmanship is worth every penny. Edit: Update -- A month later, I am enjoying the lamp far more than I expected. My partner started turning it on so when i come home at night it glows through its beautiful colors casting a soft light on the bedroom. It is pleasure just to look into the bedroom at night. It is like looking at a piece of sculpture. Edit update: 1 1/2 years later -- I still so love this lamp -- it is one of the greatest pleasures of the decor of my bedroom. Now I see that Quoizel decided not to discontinue it -- wise decision -- one of the most beautiful lamps ever. I must say I am especially glad I purchased it when I did as it is now almost two hundred dollars more than it was a year and a half ago. It would be a good reading lamp but don't expect it to brighten up even a part of a small bedroom. 4-5 of these might do it in a small bedroom. I really liked the design and uniqueness of this lamp and was ready to order tall floor version for living room and another small one for the bedroom but can't justify the price for the lumens you get. Looking forward to 2nd generation of it using newer, brighter LEDs if they ever make one. I love the quality of this light but when it's been on for only a few minutes, it get's very hot. You cannot touch the shade at this point. Also, the heat that radiates down from the light is hot.
